Saruja General Meeting – Youths and Elders September 2017
03 Sept 2017, a general meeting of Saruja Village was held at the village Bantaba. The meeting was preceded by a joint executive meeting between The Saruja Foundation and Saruja Youth Development Association held on the 02 Sept 2017 at the residence of Burama Jaiteh.
Members of the village elders including Sheriff Trawally (representing the Alkali), Ebrima Saidy, Kebuteh Konateh, Ebrima Saidy (Luwo), Sainey Camara and Bura Jaiteh attended the meeting. It was chaired by Ebrima Saidy.
The meeting started with the usual prayers to seek Allah’s blessings and guidance throughout the meeting. Mustapha Nyabally, the President of The Saruja Foundation gave an overview of the meeting and explained that it was unanimously agreed to inform the people of the village the need for unity and understanding amongst us and to work together as one family towards the achievement of our common interest.
The members of the village were informed about the purpose and functions of the Foundation and SYDA and how they could work together.
Several speakers took turns calling for unity and understanding in the village. They also called for a collective participation to the basic needs of the village in areas such as environmental protection, health care and forms of development activities.
The speakers called on the Youth to foster a strong sense of unity and love within the village regardless of our individual differences, as well as be proactive in all village activities. The meeting also advised the Youth to embrace self-help ‘Tesito’ initiatives and be action-oriented especially when the need arises in the village.
In conclusion, Sheriff Trawally, a representative of the Alkalo called on the members of the village to always work together to promote unity and love in the village and always consult the Alkalo for any development initiative intended to be undertaken in the village for his input and support especially land allocation.
